March 2, 2012 Guests:  Private Sector Working Group (Senator Imani Duncan-Price, Joseph Matalon, Wayne Henry)

Mr. Matalon presented the Tax Reform Proposal of Jamaica (available for viewing on he PSOJ website) which he noted was a complex area and was supported by 70 business associates.

He advised that the Private Sector Working Group was interested in partnering with local media to ensure that public debate on tax reform would take place with the maximum amount of knowledge and understanding of the underlying issues.  Senator Duncan-Price suggested executing a workshop for journalists to discuss the principles of the reform.

 

March 30, 2012 Guests:  Owen Wellington, Commissioner of Police and  Mr. Karl Angell, JCF Communications Director

The Commissioner assured the media heads that the number of killings in 2012 had reduced and that there was a decrease in crime.  He mentioned that the gangs downtown had been removed and peace had been restored and asked for the media’s assistance in getting the word out.  The media suggested that these stories should always be forwarded to them so they can enlighten the public. This will give peace of mind to businessmen and customers downtown.
