The Ad Council sought to re-ignite their association with the MAJ to disseminate low inventory campaigns with good quality and high impact social messages.  Other entities involved would be the Advertising Agencies Association of Jamaica, CARIMAC, Film Producers Association and non-government organizations.

The Minister of State for Education, Youth & Information advised that the Ministry would be embarking on a three-year marketing campaign entitled “Our Children Jamaica” in an effort to protect and look out for the well-being of children. They intended to run the campaign across all media platforms.  They had developed a video, PSAs, a logo and mantra and the project was being advertised on billboards and LED display boards.  The Minister asked for advertising space and also invited the media to create their own messaging.

It was explained that Crime Stop pays out rewards to unidentified informants who call in on 311 to give information on crimes that will lead to an arrest. The information is passed over to the police for action.

The Police Commissioner said that the media plays a critical role as stakeholders and stories should be edited to help solve crime and caution should be taken not to mis-quote.  The JCF was encouraged to develop a communication strategy so that its successes could be publicized.

Meeting Between Heads of Media and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community from Washington, DC and US Embassy Representatives (held May 22, 2015)

Todd Larson (USAID, Senior LGBT Coordinator)

Denise Herbol (USAID, Mission Director)

Robert Piehel (US Embassy, Political/Human Rights Officer)

Joshua Polacheck (US Embassy, Public Diplomacy Officer)

The Representatives advised that they requested the meeting to build dialogue with members of the civil society and national government with respect to human rights in the LGBT community.  They were focussing on challenges and opportunities.  They have been building international partnerships so they could address matters such as equality in the workplace and they have also been discussing general equality of citizenship concerns since the issue had been a hostile environment internationally.
